Messi not on Ballon d´Or shortlist as Yamal, Rodri and Bellingham included

Eight-time Ballon d Or winner Lionel Messi has missed out on a nomination for this year s award, with Lamine Yamal, Rodri and six England internationals making the 30-man shortlist.

Messi helped Argentina win a record-breaking 16th Copa America title this year, though he only scored once at the tournament and was forced off injured in the final – a 1-0 win over Colombia.

He has also been hamstrung by injuries at club level in 2024, only making 12 appearances in MLS but still scoring 12 goals – a tally only bettered by 12 players in the competition.

His omission – as well as that of Al-Nassr s Cristiano Ronaldo – means it is the first time since 2003 that neither of the two great rivals have been in the running for the award, which was won by one…

NBA playoffs 2021: I wanted to play football growing up, not basketball – Giannis after juggling exh

Giannis Antetokounmpo revealed his love for football after leading the Milwaukee Bucks past the Miami Heat in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference matchup in the NBA playoffs.

Antetokounmpo led the way as the Bucks routed the Heat 132-98 on Monday for a commanding 2-0 lead in the first-round series.

Two-time reigning MVP Antetokounmpo posted 31 points in 31 minutes, while also tallying 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals on home court in Milwaukee.

A superstar with the basketball, Antetokounmpo also demonstrated his football skills after juggling the ball during a break in play against the Heat.

Afterwards, Greece international Antetokounmpo told reporters: I can do probably like 300 of those.

I used to play soccer when I was young. My dad us…

Ballon d´Or 2019: Juventus defender De Ligt wins Kopa Trophy

Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt has been named as the winner of the 2019 Kopa Trophy at this year s Ballon d Or ceremony.

Awarded to the best player in the world under the age of 21, De Ligt inherits the award from France and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe.

De Ligt has enjoyed a sensational 2019, guiding Ajax to the Eredivise title and the semi-final of the Champions League, where they ultimately suffered a last-gasp defeat to Tottenham.

His stunning form for the Dutch side led to a reported €75million move to Juventus in July, with the Serie A champions seeing off competition from a number of European rivals for his signature.

The 20-year-old has made 15 appearances across all competitions for Maurizio Sarri s side this season, scoring …

Premier League preview: 17th November 2012

QPR boss Mark Hughes is under intense pressure for his side to get a victory against Southampton on Saturday

This weekend’s Premier League action kicks off at the Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal host North London rivals Tottenham in the early kick-off.

The two teams are very close together in the league table.

Tottenham are seventh with Arsenal one point behind in eighth position. Both teams desperately need wins to get themselves back up towards the top four positions.

The Gunners have doubts over the fitness of Mikel Arteta, Oliver Giroud and Theo Walcott.

However, keeper Wojciech Szczesny may return to the first team for the first team since September and Jack Wilshere will return from suspension.

Tottenham will be without midfielder…

Guardiola expects repeat of 2022 as Man City and Arsenal face title race finale

Pep Guardiola has warned Manchester City to expect a repeat of the dramatic final day of 2021-22 when the Premier League title race goes to the wire on Sunday.

After beating Tottenham 2-0 in midweek, City know a victory at home to West Ham will secure a fourth straight title – a feat never previously achieved in English top-flight history.

Should City fail to win, Arsenal will leapfrog them and claim their first title since 2003-04 if they beat Everton at the Emirates Stadium.

Two of City s previous five title wins under Guardiola were decided on the final day, as they edged out Liverpool at the death in 2018-19 and 2021-22.

On the latter occasion, they went 2-0 down at home to Aston Villa before three goals in five second-half minutes – two from Ilk…

Patriots vs Jets Week 2 Picks and Predictions: New Chapter Starts in AFC East Rivalry

A pair of AFC East rookie quarterbacks will battle as Mac Jones and the New England Patriots head to East Rutherford to take on Zach Wilson and the New York Jets.

The Jets haven’t beat the Patriots in regulation since the 2010 AFC Divisional playoffs, as New England is 19-4 SU since the beginning of the 2010 season vs. Gang Green, but can all the changes New York has made pay off in Week 2 at home? Find out with our free NFL betting Patriots vs. Jets picks and predictions.

Panthers vs Buccaneers Week 18 Picks and Predictions: Tampa Does Its Part for No. 2 Seed

The Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will play in an NFC South matchup with lopsided amounts of motivation. The Panthers, losers of six straight, are eliminated from playoff contention and seemingly in the final days of Matt Rhule’s tenure as head coach. The Bucs have their eyes set on moving into the No. 2 seed, which they can accomplish with a win and some help from the 49ers in their game against the Rams.

NFL Week 18 Bet Now, Bet Later: America's Team Goes For All the NFC Marbles

Ah, Week 18 of the NFL season: “Where people throw ducks at balloons and nothing’s the way it seems.”

The final slate of regular season games is a mixed bag of motivations, with plenty of playoff pressure twisting the betting markets. Then you have teams already in the tournament potentially protecting their stars and resting players. And, of course, many teams have nothing on the line in the finale, so you want to find out who’s going down swinging and who’s already got flights booked to Cabo.

We try to get ahead of one of the wildest weeks in NFL wagering with my “Bet Now, Bet Later” lines for Week 18, telling you which lines could hold more value if you take them early and which ones still need to ripen.

Saints vs Patriots Odds, Picks, and Predictions Week 5: This Carr Has Broken Down

The New Orleans Saints head to Foxborough on Sunday to try and jump-start an offense that has scored just three touchdowns over 16 quarters. The England Patriots sit as a slight favorite in NFL odds with a total of 40 in a game trending towards Mac Jones and Derek Carr both starting.

With a stumbling offense, a banged-up Carr, and some possible poor passing conditions, is there any reason to back the Saints offense, especially when the Pats brought in JC Jackson to replace an injured Christian Gonzalez?

Here are my free NFL picks for Week 5 odds between the Saints and Patriots.
