Angry Allegri blasts penalty ´gift´

AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri was left gutted by the crucial second penalty gifted to Barcelona in their 3-1 Champions League victory.

Lionel Messi converted from the spot twice to give Barcelona a 2-1 advantage before half-time in the sides quarter-final tie, following their 0-0 draw in the first leg at the San Siro, before Andreas Iniesta killed off the contest in the second half with a cool finish at the Camp Nou.

Antonio Nocerino had made it 1-1 with a neat finish from Zlatan Ibrahimovic s pass, after Messi had scored the opener from the spot.

Alessandro Nesta fouled the Argentine for the first penalty, giving the referee little choice, but it was his second foul for an alleged pull of Sergio Busquets shirt that left Allegri fuming.

Coventry boss Mark Robins: Manchester United are the ‘biggest club in the world’

Coventry boss Mark Robins has scoffed at the “derisory” criticism of Manchester United, insisting his side’s FA Cup semi-final opponents remain the biggest football club on the planet.

Robins began his career at Old Trafford and his history with the club is firmly intertwined with the cup, with his third round winner against Nottingham Forest in 1990 often cited as the goal that saved Sir Alex Ferguson from the sack.

Ferguson’s latest successor in the hot seat, Erik ten Hag, could do with firming up his own position and could find himself on extremely rocky ground if the Red Devils were denied a shot at silverware by Championship opposition.

They are winless in four games since reaching the last four with a penalty shootout victory over Liverpool and sit …

USA captain Morgan celebrated scoring a Women s World Cup semi-final winner against England by lifting her little finger and pretending to sip tea, a popular beverage in the country of her opponents and one linked to American independence after a shipment of the drink was dumped in the sea by colonists in an event known as the Boston Tea Party.

Manchester United march to best run since Ferguson era

Manchester United s 2-0 win over West Ham was littered with controversy, but the Red Devils are enjoying their best run of form since the Alex Ferguson era.

Goals from Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, combined with a dubious red card for West Ham s Sofiane Feghouli, made it seven wins from seven for United across all competitions, and 13 games unbeaten in total.

It is the longest unbeaten streak United have enjoyed since March 2013, prior to Sir Alex Ferguson s retirement.

Allegri to leave Juventus

Massimiliano Allegri is to step down as Juventus head coach at the end of the season, the Serie A champions have confirmed.

Allegri s future had been in doubt ever since Juventus were knocked out of the Champions League quarter-finals by Ajax.

Juve had been considered among the favourites for Europe s top competition following the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo at the start of the season, with many suggesting he was the missing piece of the puzzle after the Serie A champions reached the final in 2017 and were narrowly knocked out by eventual winners Real Madrid last term.

The loss to Ajax ended their challenge, though, and some supporters have grown frustrated with Allegri s pragmatic tactics, despite him leading Juve to an eighth Serie A title in a row in 2018-19.…

Gareth Southgate again praised his England players for their opposition to racism amid allegations they were abused during Thursday s 4-0 win in Hungary.

England secured a superb victory in Budapest, moving five points clear at the top of Group I in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

Second-half goals from Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Declan Rice helped the Three Lions move on swiftly from their Euro 2020 final heartbreak.

But this latest triumph was marred by the actions of Hungary supporters as their side suffered their heaviest defeat in 118 home World Cup qualifiers.

Objects were thrown at Sterling and his team-mates as they celebrated, while there were also reports of chants aimed at the Manchester City forward.

Howard Webb admitted officials got one of the big decisions wrong in Nottingham Forest s controversial Premier League defeat to Everton this month.

´Now focus on Denmark´ urges Australia boss Arnold

Mitchell Duke scored the only goal, glancing home Craig Goodwin s deflected cross in the 23rd minute, before the Socceroos withstood some concerted Tunisia pressure to secure their first win at a World Cup in 12 years and first clean sheet since 1974.

The win moves Australia on to three points and with renewed hope of advancing out of Group D. Next up on Wednesday is a clash with the Danes and that has already become the focus of Arnold s attention.

Asked about his approach to that game, he said: We ve got to see what the result is tonight [between France and Denmark] but …
